The head of the IMF has been charged with a criminal sexual act, attempted rape and unlawful imprisonment, following allegations made by a hotel maid in New York
Dominique Strauss-Kahn was taken into custody at JFK airport after being pulled from the first-class cabin of a flight to Paris just minutes before take-off.
The 62-year-old married father of four is due to appear before a judge later this evening.
The lawyer representing Mr Strauss-Kahn, Benjamin Brafman, has indicated he "will plead not guilty" to the charges.
The incident is alleged to have happened in Mr Strauss-Kahn's luxury suite at the Sofitel hotel, not far from Manhattan's Times Square.
A 32-year-old maid told authorities she was attacked when she went into clean the room.

Does that particular claim affect how she can be interviewed by any chance? This whole thing has a very off smell to it.
The only thing topical I found is that you seem to hate the IMF on principle. Which is interesting in that this guy is actually the hero of most of the IMF haters in that he actually tries to make compromises and doesn;t get all hardcore like the IMF is known for being.
I would think that if they arrested him that there would HAVE to be physical evidence.
Guess not.
Unless they do have some real physical evidence.

"Lawyers told RMC radio that Strauss-Kahn had left his hotel and was having lunch with his daughter, a student at Columbia University, at the time when authorities said the attack took place. After lunch, he went to the airport, realized that he had forgotten a cellphone and called the hotel to find the instrument. It was that call that allowed police to find him and arrest him at the airport."
If he was having lunch in a restaurant, there will be witnesses besides his daughter to corroborate this.
From the same article:
"In a prepared statement, Strauss-Kahn's wife, Anne Sinclair, told the French news agency AFP: "I do not believe for one second the accusations brought against my husband," said Sinclair, a New York-born journalist. "I have no doubt his innocence will be established.""
Please.
Rapist, not so sure
In particular who exactly gains from this? Any obvious and suspicious monetary fund or stock moves?
A lot of women and men don't report rape because the incident may be ludicrous.
But I'm leaning towards innocent.
The entire fate of Europe as well as France is riding on this one. Trillions of dollars. Nato memberships. The existence of the European union itself. This is a world turning move.
I'm not going to just "assume" anything for anyone's political convenience right now.
In the big picture, its only small potatoes compared to how the IMF rapes third world countries with predatory loans.
