Breaking: Ahmadinejad to resign

A few minutes ago on May 5, 2011, Arab TV announced that Supreme Leader Ayatollah Khameini requested Iran's President Ahmadinejad to step down from his post. This has not been confirmed nor verified by Western media as yet, however, it has been reported that several of his close aides are already under arrest.

The UK Guardian reported today that many of Ahmadinejad's aides were accused of using 'supernatural powers', including invoking jinns (spirits) in an attempt to further the president's agenda against Khameini. This includes Irani Chief of Staff Esfandiar Rahim Mashaei,

The arrests come amid a growing rift between Ahmadinejad and Khamenei which has prompted several MPs to call for the president to be impeached. The Guardian 5/5/2011

Checking for the latest on Iranian website Ayandeh-Negar, an article posted therein declared that relations between Ayatollah Khameini and his 'son' Mahmoud Ahamadinejad had become deviant.

are you following the story? I have not provided any updates as the situation between him and Khameini is very tense. I am waiting for one of them to blink.

Hey, thanks for this enlightening article. Seems as if someone at AP did her/his homework.

"Deviant", well put Ayatollah, now look into the mirror and tell us what your see.

I've been away for a couple of days, and I detect some skepticism about the veracity of the article. For those cynics, have a look at this al-Jazeera entry dated May 6th: english.aljazeera.net/news/mid...25329.html
Headline: Ahmadinejad row with Khamenei intensifies
Iranian president said to be considering resignation after intelligence chief he fired was reinstated by supreme leader.

This is under the headline "COMEDY". Why is it in Current's news section?
by 2helenahandbasket (+135p) | 12 months ago
2helenahandbasket:
The person who originally submitted the article (which turns out to be her very OWN article) put it in the "News" group. After a couple of days, someone else apparently added it to the "Comedy" group. This happens. And since the whole article (especially the damn headline) is a fake, the submission really does "deserve" to be in the latter group, don't you agree?
by EthicalVegan (+435p) | 12 months ago
EthicalVegan:
I agree with you. Comedy!
by SFirman (+210p) | 12 months ago
2helenahandbasket:
because comedy delivers the best news..
by Aimee_Kligman (+85p) | 12 months ago
EthicalVegan:
It is not fake because Ahmadinejad was asked to resign. The article specifically stated that the report was unconfirmed and offered supporting evidence.
by Aimee_Kligman (+85p) | 12 months ago
Aimee_Kligman:
"Ahmadinejad to resign" is what you wrote. You did not write "Admadinejad ASKED to resign." And it wasn't "breaking" news, really. "Breaking" would be when he hopefully DOES resign.

Well, once you start summoning jinns it's only a matter of time, right?

It doesn't matter who is president so long as the Supreme Leader Ayatollah Khameini is in power. Ahmadinejad is just a figure head.

Just like every American president since Andrew Jackson.
by jubal (+310p) | 12 months ago
mitekillem:
yes, of course... but he dared to cross Khameini; that is not common nor desirable if you want to stay in power.
by Aimee_Kligman (+85p) | 12 months ago
As KennyMotown said yesterday...what is up with these misleading headlines?
Requesting that this idiot step down is a far cry from them directing him to resign.

This isn't FIXED NEWS people...where you make it up as you go along! Get with the program and limit your headlines to facts, not conjecture. If it's your opinion, say so. CurrentTV News doesn't do yellow journalism- pure and simple.

HEY THAT SOUNDS LIKE OBAMA POOP. THE SUPREME POOPER; OR PARTY POOPER: WATCH www.presstv.ir english straight from Tehran. HA HA HA!
by theknopfknows (+120p) | 12 months ago
They need to get rid of both of them. Khamenei is as power hungry as Ahmadinejad, he just manages to keep it all safely hidden under the robes of religion.

Not like our "democracy" has been producing a more representative form of government lately either though...
by Incredulous (+475p) | 12 months ago
Incredulous:
Yeah good idea, As I stated in a reply a moment ago. Iran was a stable secular democracy until the US and England financed an overthrow in 1954... funniest name in the mix at that time Kermit Roosevelt. Check it out.

Incredulous:
"keeps his hidden under his robes..." that and his tiny little chubby, too.
by jubal (+310p) | 12 months ago
Incredulous:
No but Khameini actually did lose his own credibility and some stature when he endorsed Ahmadinejad despite the doubt that he had won the last election. His stance compromised his approachability.

Absolutely true. Installing the Shah was the beginning of a disaster for the region. But England needed a guarantee for its oil supply, and thus ...

You do realize that Iran was a secular democracy. Until the US and England in 1954 financed a coup to overthrow that government and put the Shaw of Iran in power. And you wonder why they don't like us.

Depends on WHO he is replaced with ... and what their plans are . This could be bad .
by artemis6 (+395p) | 12 months ago
artemis6:
I agree. But this change is absolutely necessary!
by GISchmo (+105p) | 12 months ago
GISchmo:
You should keep in mind that Ahmadinejad is one of the most progressive presidents that Iran has had - though we certainly might not view him as such. The real leader is the supreme Ayatollah, and I'd much prefer Ahmadinejad to stay in power. Though, like Artemis said, we'll have to see who replaces him.
by Jeremy_Benson (+120p) | 12 months ago
GISchmo:
The religious leaders have the real power there , so , i think not .... It is just a show of power by THEM ....
